FAQ's
What is your cancellation policy?
It is courteous to give 24 hours notice if you need to reschedule an appointment.  If a client misses too many appointments without adequate notice, they may be billed for the cost of service.

If I'm sick, will massage help?
If you have a cold or the flu, please reschedule your treatment.  Not only might it exacerbate your symptoms, but you would risk passing on your illness to your therapist.

What do I wear during treatments?  Will I be covered?
You will always be covered for modesty and comfort during all treatments and at no time will any private area of your body be exposed, regardless of how much you wear under the sheet..  You'll be given disposable undergarments to wear during wraps, in addition to being covered with sheets or towels.  During massages, about half the clients leave their underwear on, half remove all of their clothing.  It just depends on what makes you comfortable. If you prefer glut or low back work, it can be helpful to remove underwear, but if you aren't comfortable it isn't required.

Am I supposed to talk during my massage?
Again, this is personal preference.  It is not rude at all to rest quietly or even fall asleep during treatments, many people do.  If you're more comfortable talking, feel free.  Therapists take their cues from you.  The therapist will check in with you during treatments to inquire about temperature or pressure, or to ask you to engage a muscle for them.  You are encouraged to speak up at any time if you need something done differently.  Therapists appreciate client feedback, both positive and negative...so please don't hesitate!

I was sore after my last massage, why?
There are several reasons a person might be sore after a massage.  The first is that the therapist used too much pressure.  Amounts that cause more than a bit of "Good Hurt" are often excessive and therapists depend on you to help us gauge what amount is appropriate. Also, massages increase circulation and help to push lactic acid and toxins out of the muscles and tissues, similar to a workout.  Just like when you overdo it when you've been sedentary for a while, if you haven't had a massage for awhile, it might be best to take it a bit easy.  Arriving to your appointment well-hydrated and drinking sufficient water afterward will help.  Even with all of these precautions in place, you might still be a bit sore for up to 24 hours after a deep tissue treatment.  Ice can help.

What type of massage is right for me?
There are hundreds of types of massage.  The Loft offers a good variety of massages to meet the needs of most people.  Your therapist will help you determine what is best for your needs and preferences.  If you'd like to research more about different types of massages, the website
www.massagetherapy.com is helpful.  If we don't offer the type of massage you're looking for, we'd be happy to make a referral.

Can I bring my own music?
We use an I-Pod dock, so if you have a compatible MP3 player, load up your preferred playlist and we're happy to play it during your session.

Can children get massages?
Children and teenagers benefit greatly from massages.  For children with sleeping problems, ADHD, or other concerns, massage can be very helpful.  Parents can also learn massage techniques they can do at home.  Teenagers benefit from massage to help with sports injuries and to help get ready for athletic events.  Massage and body treatments are also good ways for teenagers to increase self awareness and self esteem.  For clients under 18, a parent or guardian is required to be present during treatment.

Do you bill insurance?
We do not bill for general health insurance.  In Iowa, most companies will not cover massage and none cover foot soaks. If you have been hurt in an auto or work comp accident, it is possible to get reimbursement from insurance companies, but may require payment up front.

Do you offer discounts?
Occasionally we have specials to introduce new services.  If you are looking for discount massages, please  contact one of the local massage therapy schools, who often are looking for clients for the students to practice on.

I'm expecting a call, can I keep my cell phone with me?
The Loft does not permit cell phone usage in order to maintain a serene environment.  A ringing cell phone is a distraction to the therapist and doesn't allow the client to fully relax.

If more questions arise, please call The Loft!
